Ege University, which was the first state university where the project was implemented as a pilot university
within the scope of the "Zero Waste" Project initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, was
given a "Zero Waste Certificate" by the Izmir Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization as a
result of the work carried out within the scope of the project. Ege University became the first educational
institution in Izmir to receive this certificate on a campus basis with all its units. Ege has met the following
criteria to receive a Zero Waste Certificate:

  • At least binary collection of recyclable paper, glass, metal, plastic wastes separately from other wastes
  • Placement of storage equipment for glasses, textile/clothing wastes seperately in easily accessible
    places for separate collection of wastes,
  • Establishment and start-up of Waste Collection Centers and collection points
  • Informing the public by determining the waste collection program, collecting the wastes within the
    framework of the program
  • Planning, informing and guiding different wastes such as batteries, vegetable waste oil, electrical
    and electronic equipment waste, medicine waste, and bulky wastes to be brought to the Waste
    Collection Center or collected from their place
  • Carrying out the necessary studies for the recovery of biodegradable wastes by collecting them
    separately (compost, biomethanization)
  • Making awareness and awareness raising studies for the implementation of the system by
    recording the data of the zero waste management system
  • Compliance with the provincial Zero Waste Management System Plan
