Water Consumption

Our university measures the total amount of water used in all university areas, taken from the mains, desalinated, or extracted from rivers, lakes, or aquifers. The water obtained from the springs within the campus borders is stored in a separate tank. Most green areas on campus are irrigated automatically with water taken from the source. Irrigation channels have been laid on the floors of green areas. During irrigation times, the tanks where the spring water accumulates are operated, and the pressurized water is transported to the underground irrigation canals. The water accumulation and most of the irrigation process of green areas are in a time-set system cycle.

The use of water in Ege University is affected by the campus population. Many local people, except students and personnel, enter the university campuses daily. For example, it has approximately 1.5 million outpatient visits per year for EU Hospital. Therefore, the visitors' activities significantly affect the amount of water and energy used.
